Today. HATE.

People suck. I left my phone on the table where I ate lunch during my break today, and someone walked off with it. I tried calling it, and we've remote-locked it with the Find iPhone app, and we're trying to track it, but we can't find it until whoever took it turns it back on. I also called the cops and the phone company to report it stolen. Hopefully, the fact that this is a tiny community and that most of the criminals around here have fried their brains with drugs means that we'll get my phone recovered.

That wasn't the end of my crap day, though! Around 3:30, I got a bloody nose out of the blue. It was disgusting and kinda scary. Lasted about two hours, too. Apparently, even though I live in a freaking rainforest, I got a nosebleed because of dry air. What-the-fuck-ever, world!

(Oh, and to top it off, I'm getting a freaking head cold.)

On the bright side, I did find out that my massive, pain in the ass student loan will be paid off this summer! I'm already planning a party for the day I get the news I'm out from under it! lol

Oh, and I finished SPN S6. Verdict: ( Read more... )

S7 isn't available on Netflix yet, and I'm not really in any hurry to seek it out. I don't like Sera Gamble's handling of the show, is what it comes down to. I went ahead and read the episode summaries for S7 on Wikipedia (because that's always 100% accurate, obviously), and none of them really made me want to go download the season right this instant.

Now I'm going to go take some cold meds and spend the rest of the evening in a drugged stupor. Bring on tomorrow, already.

comments

I'll just put the whole thing behind a cut, to spare your reading/friends lists.

I've read some S6 reaction blogs, and WOW, do people hate Sera Gamble for this season...

On an unrelated note, does anyone know a good fic search site for SPN? One that doesn't require me to read a novel-length regs post before I ask whether or not anyone can help me find the Dean/Cas fic I lost? (It was one where Dean doesn't go fetch Sam from Stanford in S1, and it's basically a rewrite of the show on that premise.)

comments

SPN S6, so far.

Wow, been a while since I've visited DW...

Anyway, I've been catching up on SPN, finally watching S6, and here's where I cut to save anyone who doesn't care from my rambling.

In other news, The Season is starting soon! I'll be head barista this summer, which thankfully means I get final say on coffee training. (We have one guy starting next week sometime who was certified at Starbucks. He'll at least have the basics; hopefully he can keep from reverting to any bad habits. :p) I've also gone over some of the ideas for coffee service once the cafe becomes more pub-like, and some ways to cut coffee costs (like not stocking a dozen different types of milk).

All in all, I've been having a pretty damn good few weeks. It helps that it's been absolutely gorgeous out for the past several days.

comments

Semi-hiatus

Why do I feel like it's been ages since I checked my flist...? I'm pretty sure this is just a sign of how addicted to y'all I really am.

Anyhow, work is going absolutely insane, at the moment. 2/3 of our winter crew is leaving this weekend (which, yeah, leaves ME), and I've spent the past week rush-training a new girl to help pick up the slack. Thankfully, one of the girls leaving will be back Sunday, but the other won't be back til May, which is when The Season starts.

So, all of this is leading up to an...

APRIL HIATUS

This also means I'm having to withdraw from the Merlin BB, which thought really depresses me. I'll still be working on my story, but summer is seriously the most insanely busy time of the year for us, and this year is looking to be even more intense than previous years have been.

I'll still lurk when I can, and maybe even update, but if you want to keep up on my life (come on, we're all stalking each other, y/y?) the easiest way would be via twitter (issahime).

Muchos ♥ - see you all in May!

comments

SO FREAKING HAPPY.

♥ The wife of one of Will's best friends (his best man, actually), gave birth tonight! A beautiful little boy; I'm bouncing, I'm so excited for them. :D

♥ Took a spill at work today, slipping on some spilled, pureed potato. (That shit's SLICK, y'all. No joke.) I got a goose egg on my knee, and a pretty nasty bruise on my hip, AND I twisted my back a bit. I'm so glad I have tomorrow off...

♥ I love that Bradley's on Twitter now, but I kind of feel bad for the guy... Just based on some of his replies, he seems to be catching a good deal of crap from the fans. ^^; (I still haven't gotten over my urge to pinch his cheeks. Seriously, I thought the boy was adorable before - this is just becoming ridiculous!)

♥ I've fallen in love with Glee. Both the show and the fandom, ffs. (Over 100 newly made Glee icons? No idea what you're talking about...) I avoided it for so long, but... Oh, well. I won't ever call myself a Gleek, however, because it makes me think of 'gleak', which. ew. But I've definitely had too much Glee in my diet, lately: today at work, I called a customer Kurt. The man's name is Kent, and he's been a regular since before I started. *facepalm* Almost died laughing at myself.

♥ Amazingly gorgeous first day of spring!

comments

"love is a human experience not a political statement"

Woke up this morning to an icy cold apartment. Evidently, we ran out of oil again - it saddens me immeasurably that this is getting to be common place - so the heater wasn't going. It was somewhere around 10 degrees outside this morning, and it didn't feel much warmer inside. I went to bed in sweatpants and a sweater last night, and still had to bundle under two comforters and a quilt. Anyway, woke up this morning, freezing, only to realise that the pipes had frozen along with the rest of us. Means the toilet doesn't work properly. I'm getting so sick of this! God, what I wouldn't give for an actual apartment with a landlord who doesn't forget to do things like order more oil for the furnace... /bitching

I bought myself these earrings in violet, after work. (I am so freaking addicted to J. Jewelry Designs, it's not even funny anymore.)

I'm contemplating dying my bangs again, but doing it in a dark violet or blue, this time. Just want to double check with my boss that it's okay. I asked during my interview, but it's been over a year since then. Either that, or going with a totally dramatic, blood red. Will actually said he's contemplated doing some blue in his hair, which was news to me.

I did have an interesting conversation with Will about his band. He's said that, if this band doesn't work out, he's going to sell his guitars and music equipment, and just give up. Which I feel so torn over. On the one hand, I can see where he's coming from: he's been at this for ten years, wanting to make it work, and trying, and it gets frustrating to go ten years and not accomplish anything. On the other, the thought of it kills me a little, inside. I haven't always been as supportive of Will's music as I could be, but it's still a huge part of him, and a huge part of why and how we connected so well. To see that set aside is just. It breaks my heart, just a little. I think part of it is that I grew up with a musician father, and I want that for my kids, I guess. I want them to be as steeped in music growing up as I was. I realise that we can still do that, whether Will's playing or not, it's just... I can't imagine Will without his guitars, I suppose.

Yes, this is a long, rambling post, accomplishing nothing.

comments

So today was a day.

I got a call from my boss yesterday, asking me to work a going away party that was being held at the cafe this afternoon. It would mean working past my normal quitting time, which meant that I could sleep in and have a late start, and my boss would open the cafe in my place. So I got to work at ten, rather than eight, and my boss was making a tahini potato soup that was incredibly tasty.

...Until she freaked out about scorching the bottom of the pan and tossed the whole batch down the sink at 10:20. We start serving lunch at 10:30. It's not possible to throw a soup together from scratch in ten minutes, so I was filling lunch orders while trying to make soup. Luckily, potato soup is really easy, and I was able to get it done by a quarter past eleven.

The party was alright. Made $80 in tips! \o/ It drove me crazy, however, that everyone decided to bring their kids (and they all have kids that are the same age. It's eerie.) and then just let them do whatever the hell they want. Not like they have to clean up after the little darlings, after all! I even got a nasty look from a lady when I tried to clean up around the kid she was with after he'd dumped ice water on the table and was trying to suck the ice up. Seriously. If nothing else, the evening has temporarily cured me of my desire for children! ^^

I wanted to go see Black Swan tonight, but I didn't out of the cafe til seven, which was when the movie started, and all I wanted to do was go home and change out of my by then sweaty work clothes. (Mopping was such a work out today!)

Now my feet hurt, but I have cookie dough coconut ice cream to comfort myself with. :P

The Uther Epic is still sitting at ~1300 words. (I keep getting distracted with icon challenges.) Tomorrow, however, is dedicated to writing, dammit!

comments

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line (or first and second line if it's completely impossible) from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. (instrumentals skipped, obvs.)
Step 3: Strike out the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own!

( iTunes made this too easy on you... )

My back is killing me again.
Six Sentence Sunday

Found this through romankate: Each Sunday, post six sentences from a writing project -- published, submitted, in progress, for your cat -- whatever.

Sounds like fun, yes? So here we go! From the blurb I wrote when I first started contemplating my Big Uther Epic, before I decided to sign up for Paper Legends:

She was the apple of her father's eye, and her older brother, Tristan, worshipped the ground upon which she walked.

Despite all of that, however, Ygraine had a sweet disposition and level head that - along with her dowry - would make her the most sought after lady at court, back home in Tintagel. It would ensnare the hearts and minds of two warlords - friends, allies, and rivals, by turn. It would, one day, place her on a throne she wasn't sure she wanted, beside a king she would desperately wish to love whilst her oldest sister held court beside her second-hand lover. It would give her a daughter she couldn't keep and a son she wouldn't meet. In the end, it would drive a man to light a fire that would burn his country and all of Albion for decades.

If you decide to play along, comment with a link to your post (unless you just want to leave your sentences in the comments).

I took the night off from writing and everything else last night. Just listened to music, watched Will play Paper Mario, and vegged out. It was a nice break, but I'm back in the saddle (so to speak) tonight, and since I have the next couple of days off, I plan to spend the majority of them working on this story.

comments

Melissa's inbox says, "OUCH."

I think the insanity (inanity?) over at fanficrants has finally calmed down. Man, there were some people in there that made me feel a bit ashamed of my tax bracket. (Also, my faith in humanity took quite a beating as more and more people joined in the 'burn the witch!' crusade against acetamide, when at least she managed to stay on topic, unlike the person who tried to drag me into some pedantic debate about Marxist classism vs. the dictionary definition.) I was so tempted to add an ETA to my post, telling them all how ridiculous and entitled and whiny they sounded - not to mention painfully first world, which is so ironic, since I can't count the number of times they've called some of my previous rants that - but I really don't want to feed the trolls.

So, now my inbox can go back to whimpering under the strain of anonymous KMM fic and praise, as it was meant to. :P (And maybe I should keep further fic/fandom "rants" to my own journal.)

And now, for god only knows what reason, I have 'Gary, Indiana' from The Music Man stuck in my head. (Could be worse, I guess - could be '76 Trombones'...)

ETA: I was wrong. Apparently, everyone was just taking a nap. *headdesk*

comments

Clicky click?

Only click this link if you want to see some gorgeous, HOT M/A art:
Sweet Dreams by revolution4u.

So, Aurora (who has <s>foolishly</s>graciously agreed to be my cheerleader/ass kicker for the Uther Epic) and I have figured out that I need to write about 250 words a day to hit the 10k words required for the first BB check-in. (GUYS, I HAVE A PLAN. SHIT JUST GOT REAL.) I'm pretty psyched up for this; hopefully, that will last! I actually think I should write like mad now, so that when The Season starts, work doesn't eat my muse, again. Although, I still need to talk to my smith/medieval weaponry fanatic friend to get the details down for the fight scenes. (I wonder if they'd mind me tagging along to Viking group training, so I can write more realistic fights...?)

comments

HAIRCUT.

That's what I did with my day. Well, what I did when I wasn't letting HORRIBLE INFLUENCES egg me into joining the biggest fest in the fandom with DEADLINES that are going to MAKE ME CRY LIKE A LITTLE BABY. *ahem* I actually forgot how much it hurts to get my eyebrows shaped, too, so I went ahead and did that, and now my face hurts. ^^;

It's basically the same haircut I've been getting, but the bangs were done differently, because my stylist is out of town, so I had to go to a different girl today.

And now, I need some pain killer...

( Check out my lame self smiling like a stoner. )

comments

REC TIME.

Q: So, what do you get when you combine an amazing artist (nachte), a breathtakingly epic series (The Twelve Kingdoms), and everyone's favourite prince/manservant combination (come on, like you need me to spell that one out)?

A: A very happy fangirl (me).
Shifts In Crystal And Gold is a Merlin fan comic, you guys. By an extremely talented artist, inspired by The Twelve Kingdoms, which I absolutely adore. I am giddy; there aren't even words. ♥__♥

In other fandom news, I want to write an epic Uther/Ygraine(/Nimueh?) story, featuring Uther as the warlord/conqueror of Camelot, which somehow ties together his comments in 3x11 about conquering Camelot when he was Arthur's age and the statement in 2x01 referring to Cornelius' tomb as possibly being one of his ancestors'. Mostly, it's sprung up around a thought that entered my head at work this afternoon: that Uther only loves what he conquers/subjugates, and I thought about putting it up on KMM, but I really want the epic: battles, magic, dragons - the whole nine yards. (No, self, signing up for the big bang is not a good idea...)

comments

"Things just went from awkward to triple lightning bolt."

Finally had that meeting with my boss. ( I'm sure you're completely sick of this, but I need to purge my brain so I can sleep. )

My brain feels over-stuffed.

Will's band mate, B, the one who acts as manager for them, wants the entire band to move down south this fall, after the summer ends. He also wants everyone to have $10,000 saved by that time (in three months). If that were possible, Will and I would have paid off my student loans by now. We wouldn't be living in a crappy little one-bedroom with a toilet that leaks almost as much water as it flushes. I told Will that I refuse to move down south without some sort of plan again. B's plan is to make it big as a band - get more exposure. Which is great and all, but, if that's it? They'll be living off Top Ramen crashing on peoples' couches inside a month. And I refuse to take such a huge step backwards when my life is finally on a path I'm happy with.

I don't know if there's anything else. Oh, right. Arthurian nail polish. Seriously, guys, I need this. lol I would totally take the time to do my nails if I could be doing them by layering Merlin over Arthur for a special ~magical shine~. XD

comments

kill me now.

Oh my god work. I know, everyone is getting sick of my work rants, and I'm sorry to carry on with them, but I haven't been this freaked out over my job in ages. I was supposed to meet with my boss this evening to "talk", and "get some things out in the open". She said she "needs to be honest with me". And I can't think of a single good thing that can come of any of that. Not a single one. I know that I've fucked up, pretty monumentally a couple of times, since she gave me the super position. I realise that, and I apologised. Thing is, though, she's very "don't apologise; fix it," which is fantastic, really, but it doesn't do me a whole lot of good. I've been considering stepping down from the position for a few months, now. I don't think I can handle another summer, anyway, especially with the lack of communication and support that I got this last year. I may do that - I may be asked to do that. It would probably lessen my stress considerably, even if it would lead to some awkward conversations with my co-workers and friends and family.

I'm worried, however, about what else any of what she said might mean. I'm thinking, worst case, I'm being placed on probation, which could mean a cut in hours. I might get my wages cut, but I'm not sure how that works, legally. (Not that I have any sort of contract that I could charge her with breaking.) Actually, no, that's a lie. Worst case scenario, the cafe is closing and/or I'm out of a job. I'm trying really, really fucking hard not to think of that. At all.

I don't know. I can't think of what best case might mean, in this instance. I really can't.

So, anyway, the meeting has been pushed back to god-knows-when. Sometime this weekend. Tomorrow, probably. Whenever her husband isn't in meetings of his own, so that he can stay with the kids. God. Someone, kill me now. I don't see myself sleeping very well tonight.

comments

♥ I went to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader the other night, and I left the theater feeling a bit disappointed, though I don't regret going to see it. ( Spoilers?
It's a Christmas miracle!

(Alright, so actually, it's not a Christmas miracle, per se, but it's still completely amazing news!)

As some of you might recall, last year around this time, I was super freaked out about my uncle, who had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer. He ended up with an LVAD (left ventricle assist device) after his heart failed in the doctor's office. We pretty much assumed that he'd have to have the thing in for at least two years, since he couldn't be placed on the transplant waiting list until he'd been cancer free for two years. BUT, when he went to the doctor in October, they were able to hear his heart, which they shouldn't have been able to do. Long story short, he went back in for surgery last week, and they were able to remove the LVAD a whole year early. (According to his FB, he's doing incredibly well, and craving some BBQ ribs. lol)

Still no word on whether he'll still need the transplant, but the family is completely stoked. I really can't think of better news we could have got.

comments

My life is pretty dull atm, so here's a meme.

Stolen from teganscrush.

Also, I've taken over marthur_stills and will start posting new challenges in January. I'm kind of excited, and also nervous. Aaaand, I was wondering, fellow Merlin fans, are there any Merlin/Arthur/Gwaine comms? I was thinking about opening one up, but I certainly couldn't do it alone. (And if there's already one in existence, then I don't have to worry about it~)

comments

Have yourself a merry little Christmas~!

Recently, with all the Beatles on iTunes ads all over my computer, I've come to the realisation that my mother and I have the exact same taste in men. This picture is what clued me in to this - George Harrison was always my mom's favourite Beatle, the one she had a crush on; I have to admit, he looks pretty good in that photo...

So, Thanksgiving. It was good. For some reason, my mother in law made bite-size pumpkin cheesecake, rather than pumpkin pie, even though she and Will, at least, aren't cheesecake fans, and SIL isn't a pie fan, in general. I, on the other hand, ended up pigging out on the damn things the whole time I was up there. (Amazingly good with fresh raspberries on top.)

Will's family is a bit... funny about money. In that they kind of throw it around. To each other. A lot. Almost as soon as we got to ANC, we were around $1400 richer. (o_O I'm still stunned, tbh.) So, I've started my Christmas shopping. Well, okay. I bought Will and myself new winter jackets, then started my Christmas shopping. Picked up Emi's gift today, which kind of matches the new pretty thing I got for myself. Cause you're never too old for matching ~friendship~ tokens, right? More shopping tomorrow, along with - hopefully - mailing out some of these Christmas cards. I love this season!! ♥

I was back at work today, which was fantastic. lol How lame is it that I thought, "Home sweet home," when the cafe started smelling like espresso...? According to my boss, the two new girls have been doing amazingly well, so yay for that!

Spent most of yesterday making new Merlin icons, and I plan on some more tonight, along with working on a couple of stories. So, all in all, I heart today. :)

comments
